Flight of the Phoenix is the name of a 1964 novel by Elleston Trevor, a 1965 movie & its 2004 remake that was released in the US on December 22. The overall plot involves the crash of a plane in the middle of a desert & the survivors attempting to make a flyable plane from the wreckage to escape. In the 1965 version, the plane crashed in a sandstorm in the Sahara desert & in the 2004 version, they crash in the Gobi. The 1965 version starred James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Peter Finch, Ernest Borgnine, Hardy Krüger, George Kennedy, Dan Duryea & Ian Bannen & was directed by Robert Aldrich. The 2004 version starred Dennis Quaid, Giovanni Ribisi, Tyrese, Miranda Otto & Hugh Laurie & was directed by John Moore. Flight of the Phoenix   at the Internet Movie Database. Richard Samuel Attenborough, Baron Attenborough is an actor & director. He was educated at Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester & the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Lord Attenborough is President of RADA & chairman of Capital Radio. He is also the elder brother of the broadcaster Sir David Attenborough. He won the 1982 Academy Award for Directing for his motion picture epic, Gandhi. In 1967 he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, knighted in 1976 & in 1993 he was made a life peer as Baron Attenborough, of Richmond upon Thames in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. As of 2004, Lord Attenborough is the Chancellor of the University of Sussex. He was elected to the post on March 20, 1998, replacing the Duke of Richmond & Gordon. He has been married to Sheila Sim since 1945 & has three children. In December 2004 his 14-year-old grand-daughter Lucy was lost in the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.
