Silver City is a 2004 movie, directed & written by John Sayles. The Republican candidate whom the film centers around has several characteristics which can be attributed to the US President George W Bush. The character could be seen as a satirization of Bush, though the similarity is never explicitly stated. As the movie was released before the 2004 US presidential election, this may well be the case. Set in Colorado, Dickie Pilager is running for governor. Dickie is the son of Senator Jud Pilager & has no political experience & is inarticulate. The political campaign falters when Pilager reels in a corpse during the making of a political advert about the environment. Pilagers campaign manager, Chuck Raven, hires Danny OBrien, a former journalist who now works as a private investigator, to examine the case. Raven urges OBrien to find potential links between the body & Pilagers potential enemies. OBriens job is to essentially intimidate Pilagers enemies & he has numerous revealing conversations with various people. Posters Of Silver City

There is a lot going on in this film about the election for a state governor Dickie Pilager , a widely liked but pretty dim politician steered by a ruthless family involved in major corruption with corporate tycoon Wes Benteen .

Enter private investigator Danny O’Brien just abandoned by his girl friend with new task to warn off activists likely to disrupt shoehorning Pilager into the governorship.

Add lashings of intrigue including illegal immigrants, dumping of dangerous waste, arranging dubious legislation to enable town planning permission for Silver City. Add mystery murder to solve & mix with a casual love interest & you have some situation.

For dedicated lovers of tangled political intrigue this is probably good film, but I found it all too much.

Acting & production values are good, but the screenplay does not sharply enough define what is happening.

Daryl Christine Hannah is a popular American actress. She was born in Chicago, Illinois & attended the University of Southern California. She made her film debut in 1978, in Brian De Palma s horror movie The Fury. Her other memorable roles include the Replicant Pris in Ridley Scott s Blade Runner, the mermaid Madison in Ron Howard s fantasy Splash, the title role in Fred Schepisi s movie Roxanne & the giantess Nancy in Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, for which she was also co-producer.
