The synopsis gives an outline of the plot, so I will concentrate solely on the actors/actress.

Jane Fonda is at her mature best & gives the performance of a lifetime, as does James Caan. I have never seen Jason Robards in better form. It is also worth mentioning William Farnsworth as the ageing & loyal farm hand. The same WF of Anne of Greengables & the finest of 'character actors'. Do watch him in, 'The Straught Story.'

The film is one of many touching, & tear-jerking moments, a wonderful on/off/on romance, desperation & joy, defeat & victory, great characterisations, good action scenes & beautifully photographed scenery. A film to watch more than twice.

James Caan is an American actor. Caan began acting in television in such series as The Untouchables. Caans first substantial film role was as a menacing villain in the 1964 thriller Lady In A Cage. In 1967, Caan appeared in El Dorado with John Wayne. Caan first won praise for his role as a brain-damaged football player in The Rain People, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In 1971, Caan won even greater acclaim as dying football player Brian Piccolo in the television movie Brians Song. The following year Coppola cast Caan as mobster Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, which also helped launch Al Pacino s career. For his role Caan was nominated for an Academy Award. From 1973 to 1982, Caan appeared in many Hollywood films. He played a wide variety of roles & refused to be typecast as a mobster. Jane Seymour Fonda is an Academy Award winning American actress, model, writer, producer, activist & philanthropist. Born December 21, 1937, in New York City, to actor Henry Fonda & socialite Frances Seymour Brokaw. She was named after Lady Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII. Janes socialite mother, after voluntarily seeking help at an asylum, committed suicide by cutting her throat on October 1950, when Jane was 12 years old. Henry married actress Susan Blanchard eight months later & throughout their six-year marriage, Blanchard helped to raise Jane & her brother, Peter. Her first husband was French film director Roger Vadim with whom she had a daughter, Vanessa, named for Vanessa Redgrave, the well-known actor & activist member of the Workers Revolutionary Party.
