Bananas In Pyjamas - Nursery Rhymes
Background Information: Bananas In Pyjamas [Top] Bananas in Pyjamas is an Australian childrens television show which premiered in 1992 on the ABC. It has since become syndicated in many different countries & dubbed into those languages. The main characters are two bananas named B1 & B2. Other characters include three Teddy Bears & Rat in a Hat. The characters were inspired by a 1967 song written for children by British composer Carey Blyton. The jaunty song describes bananas in pyjamas chasing teddy bears, with a slight twist at the end where a musical sting emphasises that the bananas like to catch them unawares. The song was shown on the Australian version of Play School for many years accompanied by an animation depicting a pair of bananas in blue-and-white striped pyjamas & the number & physical appearance of B1 & B2 are based on this animation. Given the preschooler audience, chasing & scaring teddy bears is not a plotline for the show itself, the bananas being more interested in singing, dancing & playing with the bears & other characters & bantering with each other.
Consumer DVD Review [Top] I bought this DVD for my 8 month old daughter after my husband & I saw her squeal with excitement whenever it came on TV. Although a bit young, she really seems to enjoy the characters, especially the teddy bears. The first part of the DVD shows the characters singing a delightful collection of nursery rhymes that my daughter must recognise because we sing them all the time!
The only reason I deduct a star is because of the Anti-Piracy message at the beginning of the DVD. Its a bit scary for a DVD thats targeted at such a young audience. Great value for money, though! Additional Articles & Resources: [Top] Bananas in Pyjamas: | Official Site | Wikipedia Article * |
