Doctor Who is a British science fiction television series produced by the BBC about a mysterious time-travelling adventurer known only as The Doctor. It is also the title of a 1996 television movie featuring the same character. The programme is a significant part of British popular culture, widely recognised for its creative storytelling, use of innovative music & low-budget special effects. The show has become a cult television favourite on par with Star Trek. It has influenced generations of British genre television writers, many of whom grew up watching the series. The list was produced by the British Film Institute in 2000 & voted on by industry professionals. A new series of Doctor Who television episodes is being produced by the BBC. Vengeance on Varos is a serial in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in two weekly parts from January 19 to January 26, 1985. // Going to the planet Varos in search for the rare ore Zeiton-7 which helps power the TARDIS, the Doctor & Peri discover a society built from a former penal colony whose only pleasure is the watching of televised executions. & the Doctor might be next on the listings. Martin Jarvis makes a guest appearance as the beleaguered governor & Nabil Shaban features as Sil. This story was released on DVD in the United Kingdom on October 15, 2001.

Ron Jones was a British television director. Born in Bristol, he joined the BBC as a studio manager in local radio, then became an assistant floor manager on television. After a period as a researcher & item director on Blue Peter he worked as a production manager on series like Bergerac & Secret Army. Black Orchid, Time-Flight, Arc of Infinity, Frontios, Vengeance on Varos & Mindwarp. He also directed Lindenstraße a 1985 TV Series} & episodes of police drama Juliet Bravo. There is also a long-serving Welsh -born BBC radio sports commentator called Ron Jones.
