Background Information: Monkey Business
[Top]
Monkey Business is a film directed by Howard Hawks, starring Cary Grant, Ginger Rogers, Marilyn Monroe & Charles Coburn. To avoid confusion with the famous Marx Brothers movie of the same name, it is sometime referred to as Howard Hawks Monkey Business. Cary plays Dr Barnaby Fulton, an absent-minded professor-type, who, creates an elixir of youth. When you drink it, it turns you back to a teenager. You can imagine the riotous things that happen. Ginger plays his ever-suffering wife, Edwina; then she drinks some too. Marilyn plays Lois Laurel, the secretary to the boss, Oliver Oxley, played by Coburn. Its a very entertaining movie. Biography: Cary Grant
[Top]
Cary Grant was an English -born American film actor. He was perhaps the foremost exemplar of the debonair leading man, not only handsome, but witty & charming. Born Archibald Alexander Leach in Bristol, he had a confused & unhappy childhood. His mother was removed to a mental institution when Archie Leach was only nine. Grants father never told him the truth, leaving his son abandoned by one parent & betrayed by the other. He only learned twenty years later that she was still alive. That left Archie Leach/Cary Grant with both a certain insecurity in his relations with women & a secretiveness about his inner life that may explain his bravado & charm. Those traits also come through more directly in many of his performances, in films as different as Suspicion & Notorious, directed by Alfred Hitchcock & tear-jerkers, such as Mr. Lucky. Grants unhappy childhood, by his own account, led him to crave applause & attention & to create a new persona that would attract it. After being expelled, in 1918 for an incident involving the girls toilets, he joined the Bob Pender stage troupe. Posters Of Cary Grant

Biography: Marilyn Monroe
[Top]
Marilyn Monroe was an American actress of the 20th century. Her sizzling screen presence & premature death would make her a perennial sex symbol & later a pop icon. She was born Norma Jeane Mortensen in the charity ward of Los Angeles County Hospital in Los Angeles. Her grandmother, Della Monroe Grainger, later had her baptized Norma Jeane Baker by Aimee Semple McPherson. While biographers agree the man listed on her birth certificate, Martin Edward Mortensen, was not her biological father, her paternity has never been firmly established. The most likely candidate seems to be Charles Stanley Gifford, a salesman for the studio where Marilyns mother, Gladys Pearl Monroe Baker, worked as a film-cutter. The just-divorced Gifford had no desire to be tied down & left Gladys when she informed him of her pregnancy. Unable to persuade Della to take the baby, an overwhelmed Gladys placed Norma Jeane with Wayne & Ida Bolender of Hawthorne, southwest of Downtown Los Angeles, where she lived until she was seven.
