DVD Extras: Allan Quatermain & the Lost City of Gold, like King Solomon's Mines, is presented on disc in a surprisingly pristine print, & in 2.35:1 widescreen. Also like its predecessor, the sound is in Dolby 2.0, which again reflects the limited number of spot effects layered into the soundtrack. The original trailer is the only extra feature.

Allan Quatermain & the Lost City of Gold had the task of bettering its hilarious predecessor, King Solomons Mines. It failed. Looking back from the age of slick computer graphics, its painfully distracting to spot obvious back-projection, shoddy miniatures & some of the worst wire-work ever. Instead one must concentrate on the easy chemistry between Richard Chamberlain & Sharon Stone reprising their roles, this time in a quest for Quatermains lost brother. Together they traipse across Africa, encountering all the usual pitfalls as well as jungle animals, restless native tribes & fast-flowing rivers & so on. James Earl Jones takes the money & runs through his wooden dialogue, all the time backed by endless repetitions of Jerry Goldsmiths sub-Indiana Jones hero theme.

Taken on its own its pretty atrocious viewing, but played back-to-back with the first movie The Lost City of Golds surreal self-contained universe of hilarious adventure movie clichés is a lot of fun. Sharon Stones hair remains perfect throughout, of course.

George Richard Chamberlain is an American actor who appeared in the television show Dr Kildare & in several popular miniseries, including Centennial, Shogun & The Thorn Birds. He was a teen idol in the 1960s, but came to dislike fame-seeking in Hollywood & & turned to the theater, finding success in England among British audiences. Following his miniseries, he retired to Hawaii. She married Michael Greenburg in 1984, a marriage which lasted just 3 years. In the 1980s she played many parts in B-movies such as King Solomons Mines & Allan Quatermain & the Lost City of Gold. Her appearance in Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger gave her her first wide exposure. She subsequently posed nude for Playboy at the age of 32. Her role in the sexually-charged Basic Instinct brought her to greater notoriety & the film became a popular cult movie. In that year, she was rated by People magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world. In 1995, Empire magazine chose her as one of the 100 sexiest stars in film history.
