The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery is a 1959 heist film shot in black & white. The film noir stars Steve McQueen as a college dropout hired to be the getaway driver in a bank robbery. The film is based on a 1953 bank robbery attempt of Southwest Bank in St. Louis. Some of the men & woman from the St. Louis Police Department, as well as local residents & bank employees, play the same parts they did in the actual robbery attempt. Shot on location in St. Louis.

Steve McQueen was an American movie actor. Nicknamed The King of Cool, he was considered one of the biggest box-office draws of the 1960s & 1970s due to what many film goers consider a captivating on-screen persona. McQueen was considered a combative & archetypal difficult movie star who didn’t like working with directors or producers. In retaliation, he would only work if paid a higher than average movie star salary for his films. // He was born Terence Steven McQueen in Beech Grove, Indiana. He never knew his father -- although McQueen did find the house where he lived approximately a year after his fathers death. McQueens father abandoned his wife & child shortly after McQueen was born. He was raised in Slater, Missouri by his uncle, where his mother left him. At the age of 12 McQueen moved with his mother to Los Angeles. When he was 14, his mother sent him to a reformatory school. Biography: Charles Guggenheim

Charles Guggenheim was a US film director & producer. He was born into a prominent German-Jewish family in Cincinnati, Ohio. While studying to be a farmer in college in 1943, at Colorado A&M, Guggenheim was drafted into the United States Army assigned to the 106th Division. Upon discharge from the service, he finished his College education at Iowa University & then moved to New York to pursue a career in broadcasting were his first job was working for Lew Cohen at CBS. I was there he was exposed to the new media of film & story telling. He then was recruited to St .Louis Mo to be the Director of one of the first public television stations in the cournty, several years later went independent & founded in 1956 Charles Guggenheim & Associates, a film production company. There is produced his first feature film The Great St. Louis Bank Robberty starring Steve McQueeen but continuing to produce doucmentaries & political films. In 1965 he moved the company & his family to Washington, D,C. where he became a media adviser to many Democratic political figures.
