The Assassination of Richard Nixon is a 2004 drama film, directed by Niels Mueller. It stars Sean Penn, Don Cheadle & Naomi Watts & is based on the story of would-be assassin Samuel Byck, who plotted to kill Richard Nixon in 1974. Sam Bicke is a businessman who dreams of reuniting with his ex-wife & start up a business with a friend. In The Assasination of Richard Nixon, Sean Penn is Samuel Bicke, whose life, circa 1974, has become unbearable. His wife has left him, his dead-end sales job is killing him, even his best friend has had enough. Bickes a loser, but at least hes an honest one. Nixon, the epitome of dishonesty, becomes the locus of his rage, so Bicke devises a plan to eliminate him. Paul Schrader claims he finished writing Taxi Driver before the real-life Byck attempted to assassinate the president. Maybe so, but the similarities are hard to ignore . Niels Mueller doesnt disguise the fact that his debut was inspired by the guy. If The Assassination of Richard Nixon doesnt hit Taxi Drivers heights, its still a discomfiting look at a man determined to leave his mark on the world, only to become a footnote.

Sean Penn is a American film actor noted for his inflammatory & sometimes violent personality. Penn is the son of director Leo Penn, who was blacklisted during McCarthyism for refusing to testify. actor Chris Penn & musician Michael Penn. Penn has starred in over 40 movies & has won an Academy Award for Mystic River. He has also been nominated for three other Academy Awards. Penn lives in Marin County, California, north of San Francisco. Once married to pop icon Madonna, Penn is currently married to actress Robin Wright, whom he wed on April 27, 1996. They have two children together, born before the two were married. On October 18, 2002, Penn placed an $56,000 advertisement in the Washington Post asking President Bush to end a cycle of violence. It was written as an open letter & referred to the planned attack on Iraq & the War on Terror. In the letter, Penn also criticised the Bush administration for its deconstruction of civil liberties & its simplistic & inflammatory view of good & evil.
