Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason is a 2004 film directed by Beeban Kidron. It stars Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones, Colin Firth as Mark Darcy & Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver. It is the sequel to Bridget Joness Diary. Same Bridget. Brand new diary. There are significant differences in the story lines between this film adaptation & the novel The Edge of Reason. One of the more significant deletions is that the film makes no mention of Bridgets fascination with the BBC television version of Jane Austens Pride & Prejudice & its star, Colin Firth, including Bridgets meeting with Firth in Italy. Firth, of course, is the actor who plays Mark Darcy in the two Bridget Jones films. Although its been three years since we last saw Bridget , only a few weeks have passed in her world. She is, as youll remember, no longer a singleton, having snagged stuffy but gallant Mark Darcy at the end of the 2001 film. Now shes fallen deeply in love & out of her neurotic mind with paranoia: Is Mark cheating on her with that slim, bright young thing from the law office? Will the reappearance of dashing cad Daniel Cleaver further spell the end of her self-confidence when theyre shoved off to Thailand together for a TV travel story? If such questions also seem pressing to you, this sequel will be fairly painless, but you shouldnt expect anything fresh. Director Beeban Kidron & her screenwriters, all four of them!, are content to sink matters into slapstick, with chunky Zellweger the literal butt of all jokes. Though the star still has her charms, & some of Bridgets social gaffes are amusing, the film is mired in low comedy, a sequence in a Thai womens prison is more offensive than outrageous, with only Grants rakish mischief to pull it out of the swamp.

Gemma Jones is a respected character actress on both stage & screen. She was first recognised outside of the UK in 1995, after playing Emma Thompson & Kate Winslet s mother, Mrs Dashwood in the Academy Award winning period drama, Sense & Sensibility. Renee Kathleen Zellweger is an Academy Award -winning movie actress. Renee, the daughter of a Swiss father & a Norwegian mother, graduated from Katy High School in Katy, a suburb of Houston in 1987. She was a cheerleader & gymnast & participated in the drama club. After high school, she went to the University of Texas at Austin to major in English. Though she took a drama class only because she needed a fine arts credit to complete her degree, it reminded her of how much she loved acting. During this time, she supported herself by taking a series of waitressing jobs; at 18 working at Sugars Go-Go Bar in Austin, serving drinks in a tight skirt & tiny top. By the time she graduated from college, she knew that she wanted to pursue a career in acting. She immediately began auditioning for commercials & small films that were being shot in Texas, including Reality Bites, 8 Seconds & The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
