Blame It on Rio is a 1984 romantic comedy film, written by Charlie Peters & Larry Gelbart & directed by Stanley Donen. Cast members included Michael Caine, Joseph Bologna, Valerie Harper, Michelle Johnson & Demi Moore. The film was shot on location in Rio de Janeiro & the scenery is one of the films highlights. Victor & Matthew are best friends who work for a major corporation in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Both are having problems in their respective marriages. They decide to take their daughters, Jennifer & Nikki, to Rio de Janeiro. Matthew falls in love with amorous Jennifer during a Brazilian wedding & they embark on a secret sexual relationship. Victor becomes furious when he finds out that there is an older man in his daughters life & he sets out to hunt down the mystery man with the aid of Matthew. He is reluctant to lead Victor on a wild goose chase, but goes through with it until he figures what to. He tries to talk to Jennifer about letting go, but she is determined to never give him up. Stanley Donen is an American film director & choreographer hailed by David Quinlan as the king of the Hollywood musicals. His most famous work is Singin In The Rain, which he co-directed with Gene Kelly. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, he attended the University of South Carolina. He went to New York City as a teenager & at age sixteen was a dancer in the original production of Rodgers & Hart s Pal Joey, which starred Kelly. Donen went to Metro Goldwyn Mayer in 1943 as a choreographer & appeared with Kelly in Cover Girl in 1944. His first chance to direct was an adaptation of the Comden & Green musical about sailors on leave in New York City, On the Town. This was the first movie musical to be filmed on location.
