[Top]
Billy Elliot is a 2000 movie starring Jamie Bell as 11 year old Billy, an aspiring dancer, Gary Lewis as his coal miner father, Jamie Draven as Billys older brother & Julie Walters as his dance instructor. Inside every one of us is a special talent waiting to come out. The trick is finding it. Billys mother had died when Billy was younger & his father, an admirer of real life world boxing champion Ken Buchanan, has dreams that Billy could help the family out of their economical situation by becoming a boxer. Billy, however, is more interested in music, a passion he inherited from his late mother & he sometimes plays her piano when he feels he needs her by his side. Billy is taken to the boxing gym by his father, but he finds out that he doesnt really like the idea of being a boxer once he steps into the ring for the first time. One day, he discovers that part of the boxing gym is used by a ballet school. He seeks the dance instructors help & secretly starts taking ballet class. The plot is set against the backdrop of the 1984 miners strike.
Biography: Jamie Bell
[Top]
Jamie Bell is a British actor. Jamie comes from a family of dancers including his grandmother, mother, aunt & sister. It was at his sisters dance practices that he would stand outside the door & imitate the movements of the dancers inside. At age six, he was encouraged to step inside the door & thus his dance career began. His own story parallels that of Billy Elliot in that Jamie kept his dancing a secret from his mates at school. His mother had him when she was 16 & unfortunately, he never knew his father. When he met Stephen Daldry, director of Billy Elliot, Jamie adopted him as his father. Once the word about his dancing got out, he was harassed, but this only made him more determined to prove that dancing wasnt just for girls. He has proven a lot by landing the role of Billy Elliot, winning the role in an audition that included more than 2000 lads from the northeast of England. Posters Of Jamie Bell
