Dirty Harry is a 1971 film directed by Don Siegel & starring Clint Eastwood as the eponymous Harry Callahan, a San Francisco detective tracking Scorpio, a serial killer. Eastwoods iconic performance the blunt-speaking, unorthodox detective set the style for a number of his subsequent roles & the box-office success of the film led to the production of four sequels. The alienated cop motif was one subsequently imitated by a number of other films. The title role was originally intended for Frank Sinatra, but after he injured his hand in an accident, it was offered to John Wayne, Steve McQueen & Paul Newman. It was finally accepted by Clint Eastwood. The Scorpio Killer, the films antagonist was based on the real-life Zodiac killer, who was killing people in San Francisco at that time. The Zodiac has never been caught. Audie Murphy was first approached to play the Scorpio Killer, but he died in a plane crash before his decision on the offer could be made. Posters Of Dirty Harry

Don Siegel was an influential American film director. Born in Chicago. He graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge & found work in Warner Brothers film library, rising to become head of the Montage Department. In 1945 he won an Academy Award for his shorts Hitler Lives? & A Star in the Night which launched his career as a feature director. He directed whatever material came his way, often transcending the limitations of budget & script to produce interesting & adept works. He worked well with Steve McQueen in Hell Is For Heroes & Lee Marvin in the influential The Killers before a series of films with Clint Eastwood that were successful on both an artistic & commercial level. He was a considerable influence on Eastwoods own career as a director. He was briefly married to the actress Viveca Lindfors. Posters Of Dirty Harry
