Cliffhanger is a 1993 action movie directed by Renny Harlin & starring Sylvester Stallone & John Lithgow. Stallone plays a climber who becomes embroiled in a failed heist set in the Rocky Mountains. The film was nominated for Worst Picture in the 1993 Golden Raspberry Awards & is considered unrealistic in many aspects by the climbing community. However, the film was a hit when it was released, making more than $250 million worldwide. Cliffhanger is also in the Guinness Book of World Records for the costliest aerial stunt ever performed. Stuntman Simon Crane was paid $1 million to perform the aerial transfer scene, where he crossed between two planes at an altitude of 4,572 m. A climber loses his confidence after a rescue goes wrong, resulting in the death of his friends girlfriend. Stallone is then called back to perform a final rescue by his ex-girlfriend & overcomes his inner demons to help the bitter ex-friend with the rescue. During the rescue, the two climbers are taken prisoner by ruthless thieves, lead by John Lithgow, who stole $100 million belonging to the US Treasury. Posters Of Cliffhanger

Renny Harlin is a film director & producer mostly known for action movies. Harlin moved to the US in the mid 1980s & initially started directing low-budget films. Harlin gained attention after directing A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, which proved to be a success. His next film, the Andrew Dice Clay film The Adventures of Ford Fairlane failed at the box office. However, his next film, Die Hard 2, was a financial success. Afterwards, Harlin has helmed numerous big-budget action films, with mixed success. For instance, 1995 s infamous Cutthroat Island proved to be such a box-office flop that the company that produced it, Carolco, went out of business soon afterwards. Harlin married actress Geena Davis in 1993 and, interestingly, he cast her as the lead in some of his films, including Cutthroat Island & The Long Kiss Goodnight. They were later divorced in 1998. Harlin was set to direct the film Alien³ & worked on it for over a year but later backed out due to dissatisfaction with the script.
