Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events is a 2004 movie, directed by Brad Silberling. The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room & The Wide Window. The film follows the adventures of three newly orphaned children who try to escape from the deranged Count Olaf in a series of different adventures. Co-stars include Jude Law as Lemony Snicket, Timothy Spall as Mr. Poe, Billy Connolly as Uncle Monty, Meryl Streep as Aunt Josephine & Cedric the Entertainer as the Constable. The film takes place in a highly stylized, highly anachronized version of the United States. As in the books, exactly where & when the story takes place is unclear & there are many mixed messages. The movie has been praised for its creative sets & costumes, all of which have a dark, gothic feel, leading to a visual motif that is highly unusual & creative. On December 17, Christmas cheer takes a holiday. // The DVD & VHS video were released on 26 April 2005. There is also a two-disc widescreen DVD Special Edition. If you spliced Charles Addams, Dr. Seuss, Charles Dickens, Edward Gorey, & Roald Dahl into a Tim Burtonesque landscape, youd surely come up with something like Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events. Many critics wondered why Burton didnt direct this comically morbid adaptation of the first three books in the popular series by Daniel Handler instead of TV & Casper veteran Brad Silberling, but theres still plenty to recommend the playfully bleak scenario, in which three resourceful orphans thwart their wicked, maliciously greedy relative Count Olaf , who subjects them to... well, a series of unfortunate events. Along the way they encounter a herpetologist uncle , an anxious aunt whos afraid of everything, & a variety of fantastical hazards & mysterious clues, some of which remain unresolved. Given endless wonders of art direction, costume design, & cinematography, Silberlings direction is surprisingly uninspired , but when you add a throwaway cameo by Dustin Hoffman, Laws amusing narration, & Carreys over-the-top antics, the first Lemony movie suggests a promising franchise in the making.

James Eugene Carrey is a Canadian / American film actor, comedian, writer & producer who was born & grew up in the Toronto suburb of Newmarket, Ontario. Pet Detective, Liar Liar & Bruce Almighty. A native of Canada, Carrey became a US citizen on October 7, 2004. A comedian from an early age, Carrey mailed his resumé to The Carol Burnett Show when he was 10 years old. The teachers in Carreys high school gave him a few minutes at the end of each school day to do a stand-up routine for his classmates. The Carrey family fell on hard times & were forced to move to the Toronto suburb of Scarborough, where they took security & janitorial jobs in the Titan Wheels factory. Carrey began working eight-hour shifts each day after school. Eventually, the Carrey family adjusted by living on a relatives lawn out of the family Volkswagen van until they could move back into town. For a time Frost & Law were central to the so called Primrose Hill set of young British actors that also included Ewan McGregor. In 2003, he & wife, actress Sadie Frost, by whom he has three children, Rafferty, Iris & Rudy, divorced. He has since become engaged to Sienna Miller, his co-star in the remake of Alfie. On November 17, 2004, Jude Law was named People magazines Sexiest Man Alive. The 2004 remake of Alfie was voted one of the worst remakes of all time by a British film magazine.
