Biography: John Drew Barrymore

John Drew Barrymore was an actor, one of a family of actors that included his father, John Barrymore & his fathers siblings, Lionel & Ethel. John D Barrymore was born in Beverly Hills, California. His mother was actress Dolores Costello & he was the father of the actress Drew Barrymore. Dolores & his father divorced while he was an infant & he claimed to have met his father only once. At age 13 John & his cousin Dirk Drew Barrymore enlisted in the Navy. Due to their physical appearance, the military did not discover until several weeks later that the boys were underage. John ran away at age 17 & signed a film contract. But he repeatedly abandoned leading roles & had no major film career of any kind until 1958, when he gave an acclaimed performance in Not as a Stranger. In the late 1960s he accepted a major guest role as Lazarus in the Star Trek episode The Alternative Factor. He walked off the set & was replaced at the last minute by Robert Brown. Steve McQueen was an American movie actor. Nicknamed The King of Cool, he was considered one of the biggest box-office draws of the 1960s & 1970s due to what many film goers consider a captivating on-screen persona. McQueen was considered a combative & archetypal difficult movie star who didn’t like working with directors or producers. In retaliation, he would only work if paid a higher than average movie star salary for his films. // He was born Terence Steven McQueen in Beech Grove, Indiana. He never knew his father -- although McQueen did find the house where he lived approximately a year after his fathers death. McQueens father abandoned his wife & child shortly after McQueen was born. He was raised in Slater, Missouri by his uncle, where his mother left him. At the age of 12 McQueen moved with his mother to Los Angeles. When he was 14, his mother sent him to a reformatory school.
