This is a Japanese psychological thriller by horror-maestro Hideo Nakata. He directed the original Ring & Dark Water, so I was expecting some serious chills. This lacks the supernatural elements of Nakata`s previous efforts, but it`s equally intense, with lots of twists, turns & a few nasty shocks. It`s a moody tale of kidnapping, murder & deception, with a labyrinthine, Hitchcock-style plot. At the beginning of the film a rich executive`s young trophy wife gets kidnapped, but it soon transpires that all is not what it seems. Lots of lies, betrayal, & psycho-sexual games of one-upmanship go on between the trio of businessman, wife & kidnapper. I read this one`s currently being remade with Robert De Niro so catch it before everyone else!
