Pal Joey is a 1939 epistolary novel by John OHara, which became the basis of a 1940 musical comedy & 1957 motion picture of the same name. OHaras novel tells the story of Joey Evans, a second-rate nightclub entertainer in 1930s Chicago. In a series of letters to dear Pal Ted from Pal Joey, he reveals himself to be an amoral, calculating heel cloaked by an amiable persona. The 1940 musical comedy featured a book by John OHara, lyrics by Lorenz Hart & music by Richard Rodgers. I Could Write a Book & Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered. Directed by George Abbott, the opening-night cast included Gene Kelly, Vivienne Segal, Van Johnson & June Havoc. The play was a greater success when revived in 1952 ; it has also had revivals in 1963, 1976 & 1995. The librettos story is more coherent & sequential than the novels. Joey Evans, as an unsympathetic anti-hero, is a striking departure from the usual musical-comedy formula. He casts off his girlfriend Linda, romances an older wealthy woman, Vera Simpson, gets her to set him up in business with his own nightclub. Posters Of Pal Joey

Geoge Sidney was a prolific American film director, who directed many notable films, mostly for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio. He was born in Long Island City, New York. Soon, he graduated to features, directing a number of popular MGM films, many of them musicals, such as The Three Musketeers, Annie Get Your Gun, Show Boat, and, most notably, Elvis Viva Las Vegas. Sidney had helped MGM colleagues William Hanna & Joseph Barbera bankroll their side company Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1944, a company he remained associated with for ten years. The following year, Hanna & Barberas Jerry Mouse appeared alongside Gene Kelly in Sidneys film Anchors Aweigh. Posters Of Viva Las Vegas
