Background Information: Conspiracy Theory [Top] Conspiracy Theory is a 1997 thriller directed by Richard Donner. It stars Mel Gibson as Jerry Fletcher, an eccentric taxi driver who believes that many world events are actually government conspiracies. Jerry is infatuated with an assistant district attorney named Alice Sutton, whom Jerry once saved. Alice believes Jerry is a harmless, good-natured goofball — until one of his theories turns out to be true. Furthermore & its tied in to the murder of her father & a mysterious scientist named Dr Jonas But even Alice cant fathom the depth of this conspiracy. In the film, some of the other conspiracy theories believed by Jerry turn out to be true, such as NASA trying to kill the President with a shuttle-mounted seismic weapon. // Mel Gibson is rumored to be a bit of a conspiracy buff. In 1981, he starred in The Road Warrior, which made him a star in the United States. Born in the Bronx, New York City. He started his career with hopes of acting but quickly moved into directing commercials & making business films. Dead or Alive. He has worked on over twenty-five other television series including, The Fugitive, Get Smart, Wild Wild West, The Six Million Dollar Man, Tales from the Crypt & a famous episode of The Twilight Zone entitled Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. His first film was the cheap military drama X-15 starring Charles Bronson, it was not a great success & he returned to television work. His break-through film was in 1976 with The Omen, produced in the horror boom following The Exorcist. he followed it with the hit Superman in 1980 & has mixed commercial flops & successes since then. He has received little critical appreciation.
