Background Information: Frankenhooker
[Top]
Frankenhooker is a black comedy movie directed by Frank Henenlotter & starring James Lorinz as Jeffrey Franken. Former Penthouse Pet Patty Mullen plays the title character, wearing a fatsuit in the beginning of the movie. Franken is a young mad scientist who re-builds his dead girlfriend using the body parts of prostitutes. The film contains quite a lot of gore/violence, but all played for laughs. Although we do not see Dr Frankens girlfriend chopped up by the runaway remote-controlled lawnmower, her blood is spattered all over a lawn gnome. Later, when the hookers smoke the super-crack, they all explode. However, no blood or guts are shown, just fake limbs & heads everywhere. A character is beheaded with a machete in one scene. Frankenhooker was released on home video in both rated & unrated versions. The unrated version has considerably more nudity than the cut version that has played on cable over the years. Theres no simulated sex, unless you count the two hookers that go nuts from the super-crack & begin kissing.
Biography: Frank Henenlotter
[Top]
Frank Henenlotter, born 1950, is an American screenwriter, director & film historian. He is known primarily for his horror-comedies of the 1980s & early 90s. Henelotters films were inspired by the exploitation & sexploitation films he loved, the kind which played on 42nd Street in New York City in the 1960s & 70s. His films were low-budget & filled with gore & special-effects. They were considered by many to be B-movies, but they also turned the conventions of these films upon themselves. Although many of his films are somewhat obscure, his most well-known are Basket Case, Brain Damage & Frankenhooker. Henenlotter has also collected many old low-budget sexploitation & exploitation films, such as the camp classic, The Curious Dr Humpp. Some films from his collection are available on Something Weird Video.
