Background Information: Led Zeppelin
[Top]
Led Zeppelin was a British band noted for their innovative, influential approach to heavy blues-rock & as one of the most popular & influential bands of all time. They both helped define & transcended the then-emerging heavy metal sub-genre. The band was originally formed in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page under the name The New Yardbirds in order to fulfill some performance commitments booked in Scandinavia before the break up of the original Yardbirds. Vocalist Robert Plant, known from his work with The Band of Joy, was himself on the verge of a record deal when Page saw him perform at West Midlands College of Education with a pickup band of art students & drafted him into the new band. Plant brought with him drummer John Bonham. Bassist John Paul Jones was informed by his wife that Page was forming a group; Jones & Page knew each other well from their days as session musicians & Jones contacted Page who asked him then to join the band. Biography: Tommy Vance
[Top]
Tommy Vance is a British pop radio broadcaster, born in Oxford in 1943, whose real name is Richard Hope-West. He left home at the age of 16 to join the Merchant Navy & began his radio career in the USA where he took the name Tommy Vance from a DJ who had previously worked at the station he had joined. After several years in American radio he returned to Britain in the mid- 1960s to avoid being called up to serve in the Vietnam War & joined Radio Caroline, subsequently working for Radio Luxembourg & Radio London. He was heard on Radio 1 in its early days, notably presenting the progressive show Top Gear as a trial in the stations first few weeks, but was not at that stage chosen as a permanent Radio 1 presenter. Vance re-emerged in British radio when he was part of the original line-up at the London station Capital Radio - the first legal commercial pop station ever to broadcast on land in Britain - in October 1973, co-hosting the morning show. By 1976, he could be heard on the Portsmouth ILR station Radio Victory. Posters Of Genesis
