Background Information: Center Stage

Center Stage is a 2000 film directed by Nicholas Hytner. Life doesnt hold tryouts. After competitions, 12 young dancers make it to the American Ballet Academy. They will prepare for a recital to determine who will be asked to join the American Ballet Company. Tensions mount between Jonathan, the companys aging choreographer & Cooper, his best dancer, who also wants to choreograph. The brilliant Maureen seems poised for success, but she discovers that life is passing her by. Jody Sawyer, whose body may be the wrong type & whose technique is ragged, elicits Coopers interest.
