The Good Life - Complete
Background Information: The Good Life [Top] The Good Life was one of the most successful British sitcoms of all time, produced by the BBC during the mid-1970s. It was written by Bob Larbey & John Esmonde & recently came ninth in a BBC poll to find Britains Best Sitcom. There are 28 half-hour episodes which were shown in four series of seven, there is also one special 45-minute Christmas episode. The first episode, Plough Your Own Furrow, aired on April 4, 1975. The last episode, Anniversary, was shown in 1977. The premise is a decision by Tom & Barbara Good, a respectable Surbiton couple, to live self-sufficiently. Tom gives up his well-paid job & they turn their garden into a small farm. Their actions horrify their kindly but conventional next-door neighbours, Margo & Jerry Leadbetter.
Consumer DVD Review [Top] Tom Good & his lovely wife Barbara have had enough of the mind-numbing daily rat-race & therefore decide to try their hand at self-sufficiency. They plough their own backyard to pieces, start planting various crops & get a goat , some chickens & two pigs on board. Unfortunately, they live in a suburban & rather posh area & their new challenge in life is greeted with more than cold indifference by their snobbish neighbours, the Leadbetters .
The sitcom deals with the everyday problems our children of nature have to cope with: how do you milk a goat & whos actually going to kill chicken Olivia? What do you do if your cock decides to debark on a bus trip? And how on earth do you survive a tax bill with no money left? Watch the series & youll find out. Full of witty, brilliant dialogue, sparkling acting performances & funny storylines, this 1970s British comedy classic still is compulsory viewing for everyone interested in British comedy. The Good life may not cause hysterical outbursts of laughter, but it is sure to leave you behind with the biggest of grins in your sofa. It is true that the scenery looks a bit dated but it really just contributes to the fun & frolics. Perfect television for when the weathers bad outside or when you get depressed from your own bank balance... remember the Goods are definitely worse off than you. Utterly unmissable. Biography: Felicity Kendal [Top] Felicity Kendal is a British actress, born in Warwickshire on September 25, 1946. She is the younger sister of the late Jennifer Kendal & the daughter of Geoffrey Kendal, an English actor who made his living leading a repertory company on tours of India after the Second World War. They performed Shakespeare to audiences consisting mostly of schoolchildren. Felicity made her stage debut in these productions & at the age of nineteen, starred in the film, Shakespeare Wallah, loosely based on her familys real-life experience. On her return to Britain, she found that her film appearance was not a passport to success & her struggle to build an acting career was long & difficult, partly because of her unusual upbringing. In 1975, she got her big break with the sitcom, The Good Life, which made her a household name. She was particularly popular with male viewers & was voted Rear of the Year for her appearances wearing wellington boots. After series ended, she starred in several other BBC sitcoms, none of which came anywhere near the success of The Good Life.

Born in Surrey, he first came to public attention in comedy series such as Brothers in Law & Marriage Lines. From then on, he was a great favourite with the television-viewing public, his image being that of a nice clean-cut young man. In the long-running The Good Life, one of the most successful British sitcoms of all time, Briers played Tom Good, a businessman who decides to opt out of the rat race & go in for self-sufficiency, with the support of his long-suffering wife. It was difficult for him to follow the great success of the series, but to some extent he managed this with Ever Decreasing Circles, in which he showed himself to have some versatility by playing a less likeable character. Subsequently, Briers branched out into serious acting & has appeared in films such as Henry V & Much Ado About Nothing. His most recent success was in the semi-comic role of Sir Hector in the BBC One drama series, Monarch of the Glen.
