When Harry Met Sally. is a 1989 film written by Nora Ephron & directed by Rob Reiner. The romantic comedy stars Billy Crystal as Harry & Meg Ryan as Sally. The film follows the relationship of Harry & Sally from the time they meet on a shared car ride fom the University of Chicago to New York through their many years of chance encounters leading to friendship & more in New York City. Can men & women ever truly be friends? It popularized the term high maintenance as applied to individuals who are difficult to please. In early 2004, the film was adapted for the stage in a Theatre Royal Haymarket production starring Luke Perry & Alyson Hannigan & also Molly Ringwald & Michael Landes. The film is best known for a scene with the two title characters having lunch in a diner. They are arguing about a mans ability to recognize when a woman is faking an orgasm. Rob Reiner is an American actor, director, producer & writer. His father is Carl Reiner. He became famous playing Michael Stivic, Archie Bunker s liberal son-in-law, on the 1970s sitcom All in the Family, which was the most-watched television program for five years in the United States. In the 1980s & 1990s, Reiner was best known as a director of successful Hollywood films. In the late 1990s & continuing into the 2000s, Reiner has taken an active & vocal role supporting certain education -related proposals in California, including serving as a primary spokesperson for the successful 1998 cigarette - tax initative that has raised $ 700 million for early-childhood educational programs. He also campaigned in Iowa for Democratic Presidential candidate Howard Dean just before the 2004 Iowa caucus. On December 14, 2004, the popular weblog Daily Kos reported that Reiner has decided not to challenge Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2006 race for Governor of California, but that he plans to run in 2010  .
