Biography: Bernard Bresslaw [Top] Bernard Bresslaw was an English actor best known for his comedy work. His catchphrase, in his strong Cockney accent, was I only arsked., first used in The Army Game & later revived in Carry On Camping. He was a very tall man, exactly 67, the biggest of the Carry On team, head-and-shoulders over fellow Carry On regular, Barbara Windsor, who is 410. He was married to Liz Bresslaw & had three sons. The Signature Tune of The Army Game Michael Medwin. Bernard Bresslaw, Alfie Bass & Leslie Fyson. His song You Need Feet was used in The Rutles TV special, accompanying the Yoko Ono film parody A Thousand Feet of Film, but was cut from the syndicated version & the original DVD release.

He also managed Londons Globe Theatre, the one demolished in 1902, during & Royal Comedy Theatre. He was noted for such works as The Private Secretary. Towards the end of his career, he appeared in several silent films. A Message from Mars - as Horace Parker, Honeymoon for Three - as Prince Ferdinand, Masks & Faces - a cameo? with George Alexander, George Bernard Shaw & J M Barrie Sir Charles Hawtrey mentored the great Noel Coward. It has been said that Coward idolized Charles Hawtrey & that it was from him that Coward learned both comic acting techniques & playwriting. A young Hermione Gingold understudied in some of Hawtreys theatre productions. Educated at Eton College, Rugby School & Pembroke College, Oxford. He was associated with a number of famous anecdotes & with the naming of the Hanky-Panky cocktail.
