One From the Heart was a soundtrack album of Tom Waits compositions for the Francis Ford Coppola movie of the same name. It was recorded from October 1980 to September 1981 & released in 1982. Crystal Gayle features prominently on the record, doing either solo vocal or singing in duet with Waits on many of the songs. The soundtrack was nominated for an Academy Award for Original Music Score. The movie was re-released on DVD on January 27, 2004 & the DVD contains remixed & remastered Dolby Digital 5,1 Surround Sound of the soundtrack from Waits original studio sessions, a documentary on the making of the soundtrack, aswell as previously unreleased demo recordings & alternate takes. All tracks written by Tom Waits.

Francis Ford Coppola is an American film director, screenwriter, vintner & hotelier. Coppola studied film at UCLA & while there, he made numerous short films, including some pornography. In the late 1960s, he started his professional career making low-budget films with Roger Corman & writing screenplays. Following his directorial debut with Youre a Big Boy Now, Coppola was offered the reins of the movie version of the Broadway musical Finians Rainbow, starring Petula Clark, in her first American film & veteran Fred Astaire. Producer Jack Warner was nonplussed by Coppolas shaggy-haired, bearded, hippie appearance & generally left him to his own devices. He took his cast to the Napa Valley for much of the outdoor shooting, but these scenes were in sharp contrast to those obviously filmed on a Hollywood soundstage, resulting in a disjointed look to the film.
