Život je čudo in Serbian, or Life is a Miracle in English, is a Serbian drama movie directed by Emir Kusturica in 2004. Bosnia, 1992. Luka, a Serbian engineer from Belgrade, has installed himself in a village in the middle of nowhere with his opera singer wife, Jadranka & their son, Miloš. Luka is preparing to build the railroad that will transform the region into a tourists paradise. Utterly engrossed in his work & blinded by natural optimism, Luka remains deaf to the increasingly persistent rumblings of war. When the conflict explodes, Lukas life is turned inside out. His wife Jadranka disappears on the arm of a musician while his son Milos is called to the front. Ever optimistic, he waits for his family to return but Jadranka doesnt come back, Miloš is taken prisoner & the Serbian army appoints Luka guardian of Sabaha, a Muslim hostage. his son Miloš.

Emir Kusturica is a filmmaker born in Sarajevo, former Yugoslavia. With an impressive string of internationally acclaimed features, Kusturica became one of the most creative directors in cinema during the 1980s & 90s. He was educated at the distinguished FAMU Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, he began directing Yugoslav television shows before making an auspicious feature-film debut in 1981 with Do You Remember Dolly Bell?, which won the prestigious Golden Lion at that years Venice Film Festival. His sophomore film, When Father Was Away on Business, earned a Golden Palm at Cannes, five Yugoslavian Oscar equivalents & was nominated for an American Academy award for Best Foreign Film. In 1989, he earned even more accolades for Time of the Gypsies, a penetrating but magical look into gypsy culture & the exploitation of their youths. Kusturica continued to make highly regarded films into the next decade, including his American debut, the absurdist comedy Arizona Dream & the Golden Palm-winning black comedy Underground.
