Biography: Bob Mortimer [Top] Robert Renwick Mortimer, is a British comedian & actor, best known for his double act with Vic Reeves. Bobs father died when he was very young. As a result, he & his three brothers were brought up by mother Eunice. In his youth he had once had trials for the youth team of his beloved Middlesbrough FC. He left school with three A-levels & studied law at the University of Sussex. Here he became involved in the punk movement & political causes. After leaving University, he moved to London & became a solicitor. One fateful afternoon, Bob arrived home to find his girlfriend in bed with a Hells Angel. In an attempt to drown his sorrows, he & a friend went to Goldsmiths Tavern see a performance by a comedian called Vic Reeves. Bob was impressed by the performance. They were introduced through a mutual aquintance & became good friends. They even formed a band together - called The Potters Wheel. Bob was soon invited to perform on Vics stage show, Vic Reeves Big Night Out, creating such characters as the Singing Lawyer, Graham Lister, Judge Nutmeg & Man With The Stick.

Suppoedly he got the name Vic Reeves from his favourite singers Vic Damone & Jim Reeves. James Roderick Moir was born in Leeds, but at the age of five, moved to Darlington with his mother, father & younger sister Lois. In his youth he was a fan of Monty Python. He left school without qualifications. He wished to attend art school but this was unaffordable. Before moving to London to pursue a career in the civil service, Jim had worked as a pig farmer, a cabbage farmer in cancer research & as a factory inspector. He also formed the Fashionable Five, a group of five friends who would follow bands like The Enid & Free onto stage & perform pranks,. Eventually, they formed their own band. In 1983 he began a part-time course at a local art college, developed his love of painting & eventually persuaded a local art gallery to stage an exhibition of his unique work. As well as working & performing in bands, in London, Jim also joined the alternative comedy circuit under many different guises.
