Tai Chi Boxer
Background Information: Tai Chi Boxer [Top]
Consumer DVD Review [Top] This movie, originally titled Tai Chi 2, stars Jacky Wu, Christy Chung & Darren Shahlavi. It was shot in 1996 so its quite new compared to most of the movies being released by Hong Kong Legends. The action sequences in this movie were directed by Yuen Woo-Ping, action director on The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded & Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon among many many others. The fight scenes are superbly choreographed, with the style being mostly modern Wushu mixed up with the occasional Tai Chi movements . As always with Yuen Woo-Ping movies, theres a lot of wire-work, not really my thing but alot of people out there like it. The DVD extras are pretty good, there are interviews with Christy Chung & Darren Shahlavi, audio commentary with Bey Logan, picture galleries & trailers for other HK Legends releases. Overall a decent movie on a well presented DVD, check it out!
Biography: Christy Chung [Top] Christy Chung is an ethnic Chinese-Vietnamese actress, born in Montreal. She grew up in Brossard, Quebec, a suburb of Montreal & her mother tongues are French & Vietnamese. She later learned English, Mandarin & Cantonese. While studying for a career in the tourism industry at UQAM, she entered & won the Miss Chinese Montreal contest in 1992. She then went to Hong Kong to participate in the Miss Chinese International pageant in January 1993, which she won. This opened doors for her to launch her acting career there, despite not speaking a word of Cantonese at the time & despite her only acting experience being an uncredited ten-second nonspeaking role as a gum-chewing prostitute in Denys Arcand s Love & Human Remains. She had to choose between acting in Hong Kong & becoming the weather forecast presenter at Societé Radio-Canada, the French-language government television network in Canada.
