Biography: Carmen Maura [Top] Carmen Maura is a Spanish actress. She was born on September 15, 1945, in Madrid, Spain. She is a descendant of the conservative Spanish politician Antonio Maura. She headed an art gallery & appeared in various roles in nightclubs. With Tigres de papel she made her first successful film appearance & thereafter she worked in the Spanish theatre, films & TV productions. Although she played dramatic roles, her most important genre has always been comedy, eg Sal gorda, Sé infiel y no mires con quién or Tata mía. She regularly worked with the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar beginning with the anarchic film Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón until Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, for which she was awarded the European Film Award Felix as best actress. She & Almodóvar broke up professionally during the 1990s, but they have just finished shooting Almodovar´s new film Volver.
