Cool Runnings is a 1993 comedy film, directed by Jon Turteltaub. It is based on the exploits of the Jamaican Bobsled Team at Calgary, Alberta, Canada in the 1988, Winter Olympics. It stars John Candy as a washed up, disgraced bobsledder living a destitute borderline legal life in Jamaica. He is co-opted into organising a Jamaican bobsled team by three sprinters who had lost their chance to go to the Summer Olympics & a fourth member - a largely neer do well known for driving a push cart. The first half of the movie centres on Jamaica & assembling & training the team. The second half of the movie is the drama of the Olympics & the fish out of water scenario of the laid back equatorial Reggae Jamaicans in both the arrogant European dominated sport & the winter Calgary Country Music culture. The movie was made entirely in the actual locations. Cool Runnings   at the Internet Movie Database. Posters Of Cool Runnings
Editorial DVD Review

Based on an improbable but true story, Cool Runnings concerns the Jamaican bobsled team that competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics. Director Jon Turteltaub does a fine job with both the absurdity of the situation & the passion behind it . John Candy, in one of his last roles, is touching as a disgraced coach who seizes the opportunity to work with the Jamaicans as a chance for redemption. The bobsled scenes look good & the races are exciting. The climax, which is entirely unexpected, takes the film to a wholly different level, even if events in the story dont quite match the facts.
