Star Trek: The Motion Picture is the first feature film based on the popular Star Trek science fiction television series & is released on Friday, December 7. TMP or TMP. It is widely regarded as a disappointing film due to its plodding pace & emphasis on special effects over story & characterization & is considered by many as one of the lesser films in the series. However, there are also many fans who consider this film to be the best of the series & the one film that most accurately reflected Trek creator Gene Roddenberry s vision of the future. Circa stardate 7412,6, a powerful alien force - in the shape of a massive energy cloud - is detected in Klingon space & is believed to be heading for Earth. The cloud destroys starships & other objects it encounters en route. Starfleet decides to dispatch the starship Enterprise to intercept the thing, requiring that its lengthy refit process be quickly finished & it tested while in transit. Posters Of Star Trek
Background Information: Deep Space Nine

Deep Space Nine is a fictional space station in the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Originally a Cardassian mining & refinery station named Terok Nor in orbit around Bajor, it was abandoned & wrecked towards the end of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. The station was originally commanded by Gul Dukat, the last Cardassian prefect of Bajor, until 2369 when the Federation & Bajorans assumed command of the station. It was then renamed Deep Space Nine & commanded by Captain Benjamin Sisko until the end of the Dominion War, when Colonel Kira Nerys assumed command. After the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole circa stardate 46379,1, the station was moved to the mouth of the wormhole to consolidate Bajors claim to it. Physically, the station is composed of a broad outer Docking Ring, an inner Habitat Ring & a central core containing the fusion reactors, the Promenade public area & Ops, the command centre. Sweeping up & down from the Docking Ring & defining a spherical shape are three sets of docking pylons. In all, the station is over a kilometer in diameter.

The seventh & final series of Deep Space Nine came down to loose ends, tying some existing ones together & allowing others to unravel. Symptomatic of the unwillingness to let DS9 go was the immediate arrival of a replacement Dax, though poor Nichole deBoer as Ezri Dax had to have known shed already missed the boat. Her appearance encouraged last-minute romances to blossom, with Bashir finally getting some action, Odo finally getting together with Kira & Sisko finally proposing to Kassidy. Another contributing cute factor were numerous trips to the Holosuite wherein the all-knowing Vic Fontaine dished out philosophical advice. That was when the crew werent in there to play baseball against the Vulcans or when Nog wasnt commiserating about the loss of a leg.

Oh yes, & dont forget the war! There was an early announcement that the show would attempt a 10-part resolution to the Dominion War, but viewers could be forgiven for forgetting all about it with so much sentimental distraction. When the horrors of war did resurface, they at least injected a few surprises into the mix. Odo & his ambiguously evil Founders were hit with a melting disease, prompting a backstabbing race for the power of developing & owning a cure. The original baddie Cardassians finally settled on the Federations side.

Contrary to these interesting twists, however, were the unexpected turns taken by matters relating to Siskos spiritual destiny. Suddenly the mystery of the wormhole & an entire religious belief system was reduced to the problem of translating correctly the words of a sacred book. The struggle to join with some evil aliens significantly diluted the attempt at resolving what had begun seven years before in the shows pilot episode. Ultimately, Siskos destiny, as with all those whod followed him to the open-ended climax, was to be decided elsewhere. In a move that was either bold & daring, or possibly born of desperation for not having thought things through properly, the shows storylines were to be continued in a series of spin-off books.
