Ground Force - The Titchmarsh Years
Background Information: Ground Force [Top] Ground Force is a BBC lifestyle or makeover television programme in which a team of gardeners descend on an individuals garden & remake it for the cameras, within two days, against the clock, while that individual is lured away on some pretext. Ground Force started in 1997. Alan Titchmarsh hosted the programme between 1997 & 2002, with his colleagues, Charlie Dimmock & Tommy Walsh. In one episode, they worked on Nelson Mandela s garden. a garden in memory of TV presenter Jill Dando. the New York Restoration Project garden near Ground Zero in New York. an Old Servicemens Home garden in Jamaica. a Childrens Home garden in New Delhi, India. After Titchmarshs departure, the other two continued as presenters. They also filmed new, five- minute segments to be appended onto repeats of earlier episodes, revisiting the gardens concerned, to surprise the owners & see how the gardens had developed.
Biography: Alan Titchmarsh [Top] Alan Titchmarsh, MBE is a presenter of a number of gardening programmes on UK television. He was awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours List of 1999 for his services to horticulture & broadcasting. Alan was born in Ilkley in Yorkshire, England. He has appeared in an advert for the Yorkshire Tourist Board in a series which included contributions from other Yorkshire-born celebrities including Brian Blessed, Melanie Brown, Darren Gough & Brian Turner. After gaining a City & Guilds in Horticulture, Alan went on to study at Oaklands in Hertfordshire for the National Certificate in Horticulture. He then gained the Kew Diploma after training at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He worked as a horticultural journalist for a number of publications, including Amateur Gardening, where he was the deputy editor. He has written over 30 gardening books & four novels - one of which won an award for the worst sex scene. His autobiography, Trowel & Error was published in 2002. He was a long-standing present of the BBC s lunchtime magazine programme, Pebble Mill at One.

She first came to the publics attention in 1998, when she joined the gardening series Ground Force. This is when she famously wore no bra under her T-shirt. Since then, she has presented such programmes as The Joy of Gardening, Charlies Garden Army & she has also presented coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show. In 2004, she appeared in the channel 4 reality tv show, the Games. Her Mother & Step Father were both killed in the 2004 Asian tsunami.
