Consumer DVD Review

One of the more notable anime series of the 80s has to be Dirty Pair, a name easily recognisable by anybody who knows anything about anime & manga.

The World Welfare & Works Agency employs its finest agents, called Trouble Consultants to deal with problems that the galaxys authorities cant cope with by themselves. Thing is, they just cant get the staff any more, & hence agents Kei & Yuri are drafted into service to fill the gap. They usually get the job done, but there always seems to be a large amount of collateral damage, including entire city blocks, spaceports & global weather satellites among other things... & so these two, codenamed the Lovely Angels are better known as the infamous Dirty Pair!

The Dirty Pair Flash series is a retelling of the original series. With this first DVD, you get a whole six episodes which connect to make a whole mission; its arguably the best of the three which will eventually be available. Kei & Yuri have just been placed together as TroCons, & already Kei is on her fourth Probation period & Yuri is constantly skipping work to go on her endless stream of dates . But when a fatally injured operative shoves a coded credit card into Yuris hands on the street, it leads them to a dark conspiracy, gangland territory, a vendetta with a relentless assassin, & even into cyberspace! But are they all ready for the Dirty Pair?

This DVD is very good value & the series itself comes well recommended, by Animeondvd.com among other reviewers. Theres not a lot in the way of extras except clean opening credits & a few other ADV trailers, but this is more than made up for by the fact that you get nearly three whole hours of run time for the main event. Since the series is still fairly new the transfer is excellent & both picture & sound quality are just fine. All in all for the price this is a good buy, & shows exactly why DVD is the format of choice for future anime releases.
