Fritz Langs Indian Epic
Biography: Fritz Lang [Top] Friedrich Anton Christian Lang was an Austrian film director, screenwriter & occasional film producer, one of the most famous emigres from Germanys school of expressionism to work in Hollywood. Although some consider Langs work to be simple melodrama, he produced a coherent oeuvre that helped to establish the characteristics of film noir, with its recurring themes of psychological conflict, paranoia, fate & moral ambiguity. His work influenced filmmakers as disparate as Jacques Rivette & William Friedkin. His most famous films are probably Metropolis & M, made before he moved to the United States. Lang was an artist & a painter who enlisted in the army & fought in World War I While recovering from both injuries & shell shock, he joined Germanys Ufa studio just as the Expressionist movement was waxing. Dr Mabuse, der Spieler, a crime epic focusing on the psychological conflict between the master criminal Mabuse & detective Von Wenk; Die Nibelungen & his most famous film, Metropolis.
