Grosse Point Blank is an American comedic movie, directed by George Armitage. It stars John Cusack & Minnie Driver. It was released in 1997. The movie is about a hitman named Martin Blank, played by Cusack, who gets an invitation to his High School reunion in his home town of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Initially he doesnt want to go but his secretary, played by Joan Cusack, convinces him to go afterall since, coincidentally, hes been sent on a mission there anyway. While in Grosse Pointe, Blank reunites with Debi Newberry, played by Minnie Driver, who was to be his date to the prom. Some comedy is drawn from the fact that he never picked Debi up for their date & Martin would now like to apologize for that. After their relationship is reforming, Blank is approached by a rival hitman, played by Dan Aykroyd, who wants Blank to join him in a union of hitmen which serves as a comedic sub-plot. While in Grosse Pointe, Blank finally opens the envelope containing his orders for the mission that hes been sent on & finds that he has been sent to the town to kill Debis father. Hit man Martin Q Blank is in an awkward situation. Several of them, actually. Hes attending his high school reunion on an assignment; hes got a rival hit man on his tail; & hes going to have to explain to his old girlfriend why he stood her up on prom night. Grosse Pointe Blank is an amiable black comedy, cowritten by Cusack & directed by Jonathan Demme protégé George Armitage , has the feel of Demmes Something Wild & Married to the Mob, which is to say its humour is dark & brightly coloured at the same time. Cusack & Driver are utterly charming, as is the leading mans sister, Joan, who plays his secretary. Alan Arkin is also very funny as Martins psychiatrist.

John Paul Cusack is an American film actor, born in Evanston, Illinois. His father Richard Cusack was an actor & his siblings Ann, Bill, Joan & Susie have all been actors. John began acting in childhood. He attended the Piven Theatre Workshop in Chicago & by the age of 12, John he had done voice-overs for commercials & appeared in some stage productions. His first film was the comedy Class in 1983. In 1988, John founded a theatre group & has directed several productions. After success at an early age as the star of several teen-oriented films, he has generally sought roles which cast him as an ethically conflicted Everyman. Cusack is often cast as an anti-hero, but has played a wide variety of characters. He frequently appears in films with members of his family & with Jeremy Piven, whose parents, Byrne & Joyce Piven, founded & continue to run the Piven Theatre Workshop. He is not married. Minnie Driver is a British actress, born in London. She first came to broad public attention when she played the lead role in Circle of Friends. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 1997 film Good Will Hunting. Prior to her success as an actress, Driver was a member of a band called Puff, Rocks & Brown; the band was signed to a development deal with Island Records, which ended without a release. She began a low-profile return to music in 2000 ; in 2004 she signed recording contracts with EMI & Rounder Records & performed at SXSW. The contract led to the release of Everything Ive Got in My Pocket, an album backed by a group that includes members of the Wallflowers & Pete Yorn ’s band. Driver wrote ten of the eleven songs on the album & also covered Hungry Heart from Bruce Springsteen s The River.
