A League of Their Own is a 1992 movie which tells a fictionalized account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. It was adapted by Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel from a story by Kim Wilson & Kelly Candaele & was directed by Penny Marshall. It stars Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, Lori Petty, Jon Lovitz, David Strathairn, Garry Marshall, Bill Pullman, Megan Cavanagh & Rosie ODonnell. The character of Jimmy Dugan, the team manager played by Tom Hanks, is loosely based on real-life baseball player Jimmie Foxx. Penny Marshalls popular 1992 comedy sheds light on a little-known chapter of American sports history with its story of a struggling team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The league was formed when the recruiting of soldiers during World War II resulted in a shortage of mens baseball teams. The AAGPBL continued after the war , & Marshalls movie depicts the league in full swing, beginning when a savvy baseball scout finds a pair of promising new players in small-town Oregon sisters . The sisters are signed to play for the Rockford Peaches near Chicago, whose new manager is a former home-run king who wrecked his career with alcoholism. Theyre all a bunch of underdogs, & Marshall does a fine job of establishing a colorful team of supporting players including Madonna & Rosie ODonnell. Its a conventional Hollywood sports story but the stellar cast is delightful & the movies filled with memorable moments, witty dialogue & agreeable sentiment.

She was working as a model when director Sydney Pollack spotted her & cast her in Tootsie as a soap opera actress. She followed this up with roles in the short-lived television series Buffalo Bill & Sara. She received an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Accidental Tourist & a Best Actress nomination for her role in Thelma & Louise. Davis has been married four times, including her current marriage. Her ex-husbands include Jeff Goldblum from 1987 - 90 & Renny Harlin from 1993 - 98. She is currently married to Dr Reza Jarrahy since September 1, 2001, with whom she has one daughter, Alizeh. She had a C-section May 9, 2004 to deliver her twins, Kian William Jarrahy & Kaiis Steven Jarrahy.
