Background Information: Caetano Veloso

Caetano Veloso is one of the most popular & influential Brazilian composers & singers. He was born in Santo Amaro da Purificação, Bahia, the fifth of the seven children born to Jose Telles Veloso & Claudionor Vianna Telles Veloso. He chose the name for his baby sister, named after a famous song of the time by Nelson Gonçalves, Maria Bethânia. His sister preceded him to fame as a singer in the mid- 1960s. He began his career singing bossa nova & he has cited his greatest musical influences from his early period as João Gilberto & Dorival Caymmi. But with such musical collaborators Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Tom Zé & Os Mutantes & greatly influenced by the later work of the Beatles, developed tropicalismo, which made Brazilian pop more international, psychedelic & socially aware. Velosos politically active stance, unapologetically leftist, earned him the enmity of Brazils military dictatorship which ruled until 1984 ; his songs were frequently censored & some were banned.

It is so good, both music & lyrics, that my grandson, who is only three years old loves it to the point we knows the all lyrics & dances from the first to the last minute of the show. Caetano Veloso has just turned 60 years, but still remains the young extraordinary musicians that I have known for over 3 decades. Is has a more recent DVD - Noites do Norte - which is outstanding as well, it is a pity that the large majority of the users of his site cannot understand the lyrics as they are a very important part of Caetano work.

Federico Luppi is an Argentine film, TV, radio & theatre actor. With a reputation not only in Argentina but also in Mexico & Spain, Luppi worked in almost 100 films since his debute in 1964, including Bad Company & Guillermo del Toro s Cronos. Federico Luppi received, among other recognitions, a Konex Merit Diploma for his acting in every edition of the Entertainment Konex awards.
