Background Information: Shirley Temple
[Top]
Shirley Jane Temple, later known as Shirley Temple Black, is an American film actress & diplomat who is considered by many to be the most famous child actress in history. One of her first film roles was in Bright Eyes, for which she won a special Academy Award. It was in that film that she sang On the Good Ship Lollipop ; though she often sang in her films, that was probably her most famous song. She subsequently starred in many films including Heidi, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm & Susannah of the Mounties. By the late 1930s she was the biggest box-office attraction in motion pictures & the success of her films may have saved more than one major studio from bankruptcy during the Great Depression. The role of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, played by Judy Garland, was originally intended for her. Temple retired from film acting in her early twenties. Later appearances on television did not prove as popular as her films. Temple married the California businessman Charles Black in 1950 ; she may have looked favorably on his admission while dating that he had never seen any of her films. Posters Of Shirley Temple
Consumer DVD Review

You could not but love Shirley Temple.

This is a great film of hers & you could not help but be touched at the sadness & injustice worked out in the story. Shirley Temples friendship with the little maid is a great touch too. I think little girls today would love this story & maybe little boys too if they were not surounded by their peers. They would have to admit they enjoyed it too. This innocence & optimism is missing from so much of film today.

Biography: Walter Lang
[Top]
Walter Lang was an American film director. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, as a young man he went to New York City where he found clerical work at a film production company. The business piqued his artistic instincts & he began learning the various facets of filmmaking & eventually worked as an assistant director. However, Lang also had ambitions to be a painter & left the United States for a time to join the great gathering of artists & writers in the Montparnasse Quarter of Paris, France. Things did not work out as Lang hoped & he eventually returned home & to the film business. In 1926, Walter Lang directed his first silent film, The Red Kimona. In the mid 1930s, he was hired by 20th Century Fox where, as a director, he painted a number of the spectacular colorful musicals for which Fox Studios became famous for producing during the 1940s. One of Langs most recognized films is his 1956 epic The King & I for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Directing. Posters Of Marilyn Monroe
