Detroit Rock City is a movie about 4 kids in a KISS cover band, trying to go see their idols, KISS in Detroit. It is named after the KISS song of the same name. The movie tanked at the box office, grossing less than $5m in the domestic box office. Kathryn Haggis. Mrs. Stewart Bumsteen. DVD Extras: Director Adam Rifkin gives a chaotic but funny commentary about a subject clearly dear to his heart; Gene Simmons is more level-headed but no less fascinating in his own commentary as he talks about his transition from a naive nine-year-old immigrant from Israel to the extravagant showman of Kiss. Hardcore Kiss fans will also appreciate another commentary track in which the other members of the band are interviewed on the telephone by associate producer Tim Sullivan. There's a good making of featurette with contributions from all involved. Four deleted scenes show how certain sections were cut for length, & you can also watch the complete Detroit Rock City concert footage. Also included are two original music videos: Everclear's cover of The Boys Are Back in Town, & Strutter by The Donnas. The movie's trailer & cast & crew biographies round off a good DVD package.

Its hard to call Detroit Rock City a coming of age movie, since its hard to argue that any of the characters do any genuine growing up. But even though its about four young metalheads trying to get to a Kiss concert, the movie actually has more in common with sincere portraits of adolescence than it does with raucous teen comedies. The four heroes are members of a teen metal band called Mystery . After the drummers religiously zealous mother burns their tickets to a long-awaited concert in nearby Detroit, the boys go anyway & try to get tickets through theft, skullduggery, & entering a male stripper contest. The jokes are broad & the movie culminates in an orgy of male adolescent wish-fulfilment, but here & there some loving attention is paid to the details of 1970s teenage life, the haircuts, clothes, & toys the film-makers probably had when they were kids. Edward Furlong as the bands singer exudes his particular lopsided charm; the rest of the cast play their parts with similar high spirits. Though Detroit Rock City was probably meant to be a no-holds-barred comedy in the vein of American Pie, the end result is curiously wistful; no ones going to mistake it for The Last Picture Show, but something sincere & elegiac lurks in those bang-covered eyes. , Bret Fetzer,

Edward Furlong is an American actor. He was born in Glendale, California, near Burbank, California. He is also well-known supporter of animal rights. The son of Elenor Torres & an unknown father, he was raised by his uncle & aunt. Judgment Day, a role that earned him an MTV Movie Award for best breakthrough role & a Saturn Award for best young actor. Natasha Lyonne is an American actress who is best known for her roles in the first two American Pie films & has appeared in more than thirty other movies. On August 28, 2001, Lyonne with actor Adam Goldberg drove a rented Dodge over a curb into a sign & shrubbery. She then fled from the $2500 damage. Police were able to track her down. Refusing to take a Breathalyzer test, she told the cop, Im a movie star. Can I talk to my entertainment lawyer?     She later plead guilty to drunk driving. Adam Rifkin, sometimes credited as Rif Coogan, is an American film director, producer, actor & writer. Rifkin is claimed to belong to a rare breed of film directors that transited from public access television to Hollywood. // In 1988, Adam Rifkin directed his first film entitled, Never on Tuesday. After releasing eleven more films since 1988 & one more in post-production ; Rifkin has directed some relatively memorable films such as, Detroit Rock City & the lurid, yet idiosyncratic, A Night at the Golden Eagle. Rifkin began his relatively limited production career in 1999 as he worked on the production of, Touch Me in the Morning by Giuseppe Andrews. Preceding his completion of that project, Rifkin then moved on to produce his film, A Night at the Golden Eagle & Getting Hal by Tony Markes.
