Eurythmics - Peacetour
Background Information: Eurythmics [Top] Eurythmics are a seminal British synth pop duo consisting of Annie Lennox & David A Stewart. Stewart & Lennox quickly became lovers after meeting in the late 1970s & formed a group called The Catch, with Pete Coombes, Stewarts guitarist & songwriting collaborator. By 1979, The Catch had become The Tourists, who released three moderately successful British albums, The Tourists, Reality Effect & Luminous Basement. They had a U,K. top five hit with a remake of I Only Want To Be With You. Lennox & Stewart discontinued their romantic liaison in 1980 & they began performing in duo form as Eurythmics. Their debut album, In the Garden, featuring collaborations from members of Can & Blondie, was critically well-received but sold poorly. In this album, Lennoxs trademark powerhouse & soul-filled voice is not generally present. Although In The Garden has some fine songs, it is generally seen as being somewhat embryonic & developmental. The follow-up, Sweet Dreams became a huge British hit due to the title track, which quickly topped the American charts as well. Posters Of EurythmicsEditorial DVD Review [Top] As music DVDs go, sweet dreams must surely be made of this. Quite apart from carrying a great performance , the label appears to have gone all-out to ensure that pretty much every extra feature that the DVD format supports is represented here in the best possible way. The performance is taken from the final date of the 1999 tour in support of Amnesty International & Greenpeace & includes all the classics youd expect. There are some nice multi-angle options on a couple of the songs, a self-congratulatory & patronising interview/documentary section , a discography, a complete lyrics section, & a rather dull gallery of photographs which looks like a way of using up the PR departments leftovers. But the musics great if youre a fan & pretty damn good even if youre not, & as a demonstration of how all music DVDs should be produced, i.e. stuffed to the last possible byte with all kinds of material, this release is the business.
Biography: Annie Lennox [Top] Annie Lennox is a singer from Aberdeen, Scotland. As a child, she attended a school for the exceptionally intelligent. She also studied the flute at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is best known for having been the four octave lead singer of the Eurythmics. Prior to that, she had some success as lead singer of The Tourists. After the break-up with Dave Stewart, the other half of the Eurythmics, in 1990, she began her long & very successful solo career. Lennoxs profile was boosted by Diva s five singles, numerous awards & a soundtrack for Francis Ford Coppola s 1992 movie Dracula. This profile decreased due to her sparse output although she continued to be a major figure in popular music. Medusa was published three years after Diva & sold healthily despite universally bad reviews, but it has lacked the longevity of the first album. In 1997 she resumed contact with Dave Stewart & in 1999 Eurythmics reformed for the album Peace. In 2002 she released her third solo album, Bare. The Return of the King at the 76th Academy Awards.
