Filmed in the widescreen splendour of Panavision Super 70 & blessed with the finest production values that Hollywood clout can buy, this tale of spunky Irish immigrants forgot one crucial ingredient: a decent screenplay. The film is entertaining enough, & director Ron Howard brings his technical proficiency to the simple plot, culminating in a dynamic, breathtaking depiction of the Oklahoma land rush of 1893. But the movie is really just a vacuous vehicle for married stars Tom Cruise & Nicole Kidman as the poor tenant farmer & rich landlords daughter who flee Ireland to be American pioneers. The scenery & the stars are never less than stunning, but Howard falls short of the mark in his attempt to match the epic sweep of films by David Lean. On the other hand, this movie is certainly never boring even if it rarely makes sense, & Leans own Irish epic, Ryans Daughter, is a snoozer by comparison.

Nicole Kidman is an Australian actress & singer. Kidman is the daughter of Dr Antony David Kidman & his wife Janelle Ann. Her father was a cancer research specialist in Washington, D,C ; because of which Nicole was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. The family returned to Australia when Nicole four years old. when Tony Kidman took on a lectureship at the University of Technology, Sydney. Nicole’s studied first at the North Sydney High School. She had started taking ballet lessons when she was three & this led to studies at St. Martins Youth Theatre in Melbourne, the Australian Theatre for Young People in Sydney & then to the Philip Street Theatre, where she majored in voice production & theatre history. She had dropped out of North Sydney Girls High School at the time her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer & Kidman concentrated on her family responsibilities until her mothers recovery. Ronald William Howard is an American actor, film director & producer. Ron Howard first obtained recognition as the child with the lisp in the movie The Music Man with Robert Preston & Shirley Jones. His brother, Clint Howard, is a popular B-list actor. Rons father Rance Howard is also an actor. He then appeared in the role of Opie Taylor in the television series The Andy Griffith Show, portraying the son of the local sheriff in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina. The credits referred to him as Ronny Howard. He attained film success with his role as Steve Bollander in George Lucas teen movie American Graffiti. Howard also is well known for his role as Richie Cunningham in televisions Happy Days where he played the likeable foil to Henry Winkler s Fonz. In 1977, while still starring on Happy Days, he directed his first film, a low budget comedy action film called Grand Theft Auto. After leaving Happy Days in 1980, he directed several TV movies.
