Escaflowne - Vol. 3 - Angels And Demons
Background Information: Escaflowne [Top] Escaflowne is a 2000 anime movie that is a complete retelling of the events of the anime television series The Vision of Escaflowne. Animated by Sunrise & Studio BONES, this remake replaced many of the elements of European fantasy that were introduced into the TV series with more Asian elements. Specifically, the director Kazuki Akane has cited the use of motifs from ancient Asian mythology & character designer Nobuteru Yuuki has noted that he based a secondary outfit for the heroine Hitomi on Korean clothing. A Girl in Gaea, but it was retitled just Escaflowne before its theatrical premiere. Posters Of EscaflowneConsumer DVD Review [Top] OK I reviewed volume 2 a while ago & I made a silly mistake in regards to the club escaflowne section. The Seiyuu I mentioned in my review for the previous volume are meant to be in this volume. In volume 2, the Seiyuu for Hitomi, Merle & Folken are the ones interviewed by Vans Seiyuu. In this volume, we see the Seiyuu for Millerna/Yukari, Dilandau/Prince Chid/plus another character who doesnt turn up till the end & also Allen Schezar.
As you may have seen in the last episode for volume 2, Hitomi is shocked by the appearance of wonderful white wings -- which belong to Van Fanel. Of course he wasnt meant to show his wings because of his mothers warning but he had no choice because he had to save Hitomi when she was falling down. Aside from Hitomi, Merle is the only figure who has seen Vans wings at this time. In this volume you learn about Vans past & how his parents met through memories within a feather. Cool, eh? Plus theres some improving interaction between Hitomi, Merle & Millerna. In other words, Hitomi is forming some sort of friendship between the two. Anyway Van, Hitomi & Merle are reunited with Allen & the other Asturia Knights when they are attacked by stealth cloaked Guymelefs of Zaibach. Thanks to Hitomis power, she can see the Guymelefs even when they are invisible. This most certainly drives Dilandau mad XD. However when one Guymelef aims at Hitomi, Allen takes a hit for her & injures himself -you do see blood here-. Later they set off to Freid & meet up with Prince Chid. The Knights bring Miguel as a prisoner & he sits in a cell for a while *dont know why but Miguel is my fav Dragonslayer -- hes cute XD*. Youll learn that Allen knew Chids mother a long time ago. Her name was Marlene & she is Millernas older sister. Chid hears that Allen is a true knight - thanks to the stories his mother gave him. As I said in the title of this review, discoveries are made. Not just with the whole Van is a draconian thing. Also Allen suffers mistaken accusations at some point & some trust is lost somewhere between Prince Chid & his servants. Van, Hitomi & Merle are accused of working with a traitor i.e. Allen, which doesnt seem to make sense to anyone. Boris, Chids servant decide to bring in Plaktu, a monk who uses hypnotism to interrogate people however Plaktu is assasinated on his way to Freid -- by Zongi, a doppelganger who serves Folken-sama. Zongi then takes Plaktus form & well...thats when the trouble starts for our poor heroes. Just watch the volume for yourself. Im not going to fill this review up with lots of spoilers.
