Background Information: The Foreigner

The Foreigner is a 2003 direct-to-video movie starring Steven Seagal. It has been rated R by the MPAA. // The film centers around John Cold, a freelance agent hired to deliver a package from France to a wealthy man in Germany. While what he is actually delivering is uncertain, it nevertheless attracts a lot of attention from people who are determined to avoid getting this package delivered. Before going to Germany, Cold stops in Warsaw for his fathers funeral & then it is on to Germany, where he discovers that he is delivering a black box flight recorder from an aircraft that had drowned & its beneficiary, businessman Jerome Van Aken, has a deep interest in it. Upon his arrival in Germany, Cold learns he is being pursued by several secret agents, bounty hunters & even Van Akens wife, who are all seeking the package. This film was Seagals second direct-to-video release. It was originally intended to be released theatrically in the United States, but was changed to a DTV release when Seagals last theatrical release, Half Past Dead, performed poorly both financially & with audiences.
Consumer DVD Review

As a big Steven Seagal fan, who has been sadly disappointed with Seagals more recent films, I thought this title would bring back my faith. Unfortunely it has not, the film is basically a very average action/spy story, which happens to have Seagal in it. You wouldnt think twice about watching the film if it did not star the big man himself. As far as Seagals famous fight scenes go, I feel they died out after Under Siege. If you have to watch this film, because like me you like Seagal then think very carefully as the Nico, Hard to kill days are well & truly over.

Biography: Steven Seagal
[Top]
Steven Seagal is a popular action movie actor & an 7th dan black belt in aikido. He was born in Lansing, Michigan. His official film Bio claims that he went to Japan at the age of 17. However, this is inconsistent with an interview he gave in Aikido Magazine, in which he claimed to have given demonstrations in Japanese Deer Park in the early 70s. Ray Van De Walker claims to have met Steven Segal at the Orange County Aikikai, a prominent aikido dojo, around 1974, where he was known as Steve, who gives demos at Japanese Deer Park. It seems unlikely that a 17-year old, a minor in the U,S. would be allowed to emigrate to Asia. Rays memory of him may be worth nothing, He would come to Wednesday night practice. He tended to wear some weird striped robe thing that Japanese Deer Park asked him to wear. In practice, when he threw me, I couldnt feel his hands, which means that he was very skillful at blending ki. In Japan, Seagal taught English & studied zen, aikido, kendo, judo & karate. He is said to have become adept at all of them. Posters Of Half Past Dead
