Queen - Made In Heaven: The Films
Background Information: Queen [Top] Queen is a British rock band which was popular in the 1970s & 1980s. The group is well known for its sports anthems & classic rock radio staples, particularly the hits We Are the Champions & Bohemian Rhapsody ; the band promoted the latter, first released in 1975, with one of the earliest successful music videos & later re-released it for the soundtrack album from the movie Waynes World. Queen are widely recognised as pioneers of heavy metal, glam rock & stadium rock. The beginnings of Queen can be traced to 1968, when Brian May & Roger Taylor formed the trio Smile, at Imperial College, London, where they were both students. After the groups bassist & lead singer Tim Staffell departed in the spring of 1970, May & Taylor took on vocalist Freddie Mercury in April 1970 to form Queen. In 1971 John Deacon completed the lineup as bass guitarist. Posters Of QueenBackground Information: Made In Heaven [Top] Made in Heaven which was released in November 1995 was Queen s last proper album. After Freddie Mercury s death in 1991, the remaining members Brian May, John Deacon & Roger Taylor worked with Mercurys pre-recorded vocals to create the final Queen album. The title track was actually a solo song by Freddie Mercury from the mid 80s. Let Me Live, a gospel -influenced track, started life as a jam with Rod Stewart in the 80s. This one has the least Freddie input as Brian & Roger sing all of it, save the first verse & chorus, with the help of backing singers. The next, the bluesy Mother Love, was the last song Mercury recorded before his death; its coda featured snatches of Mercury live & a sample of him singing Going Back & a final sound of a baby crying. My Life Has Been Saved started life in 1989 as a b-side & the remaining members reworked it into a pop song. Another Freddie solo track gets the Queen treatment in I Was Born To Love You. Roger Taylors Heaven For Everyone, written with his band The Cross & released in 1987 with Freddies vocals. Brians Too Much Love Will Kill You.
Consumer DVD Review [Top] The Queen films themselves are quite dated now & arent the kind of thing you would want to watch more than once, but the bonus feature on the DVD is really good & makes the DVD much more worthwhile! The short documentary on the making of We Will Rock You is really insightful & shows a load of snippets from some of the big numbers. Ive seen the show 4 times myself & it is incredible - after 15 months it is still at the top of the West End ratings & rightly so. The cast are about to change, & it is really good that there is video footage that documents such a strong ensemble at the beginning of the shows west end run.
Ive given the DVD **** - The actual videos are quite pants & should have been bonus features on Queens Greatest Hits I DVD rather than being the main feature on a single disc. I would rate them ** alone, but the documentary has buffed it up to 4! If you know of a DVD rental shop that has it in stock, rent it first before buying it.
