Background Information: Charlies Angels
[Top]
Charlies Angels was a television series broadcast from 1976 to 1981, about three women who work for a fictional private investigation agency, the Charles Townsend Agency. Their boss, Charlie, was never seen --except in some episodes from the rear only & on the series finale where he appears in Surgeons mask & outfit--and contacted them only by phone. The three original angels were played by Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors & Jaclyn Smith. Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack & Tanya Roberts also starred as angels. David Doyle played Charlies assistant, Bosley. Because the shows premise focused on the angels using a combination of sexual wiles & fierce knowledge the show became known as T&A T,V.. The angels would often be seen scantily clad for no apparent reason other than to showcase the figures of the actresses. Full Throttle. Each was directed by McG & starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore & Lucy Liu as the three angels, with John Forsythe returning to voice Charlie. Bosley was played in the first film by Bill Murray & in the second by Bernie Mac. Posters Of Charlies Angels

Back in the late 1970s Charlies Angels was wildly popular television at its most self-consciously banal. The jiggly, joggly jolly first series three belles, lioness Farrah Fawcett , pin-up babe Jaclyn Smith & thinking mans beauty Kate Jackson, were something like primetime Spice Girls, gracing countless magazine covers & bestselling posters. The idea was that one was compelled to choose a favourite angel as a kind of ink-blot window into ones subconscious life.

While the 2000 Angels feature film kept faith with the original shows self-mockingly sloppy storytelling, theres nothing like seeing the old episodes for a lesson in narrative hubris. Basically, the three leading characters were bored policewomen wooed away to a private firm owned & operated by the unseen sybarite, Charlie . After a long set-up each week, the girls investigations typically saw them going undercover as fashion models, no great stretch, in Night of the Strangler, nurses in Terror on Ward One, roller-derby stars in Angels on Wheels & vulnerable convicts in Angels in Chains. The exploitation factor is not as bad as it might have been. The cast was so glamorous, their chemistry so perfect, that Charlies Angels never became a mere meat market. Despite such nods to modernity as Fawcetts no-bra look, the episodes were old-fashioned in their heroine-in-peril appeal, yet there was a difference: the Angels looked out for themselves & each other.

Biography: Farrah Fawcett

Mary Farrah Leni Fawcett is an actress who became a noted pop culture icon of the 1970s. Fawcett was the best-known star of the television series Charlies Angels, even though she was only on the cast for one year & a few guest spots. A photo of Farrah in a red swimsuit was one of the most popular pin-up posters of the 1970s & her layered, feathery-looking hairdo was among the most emulated hairstyles of the decade. She was married to actor Lee Majors from 1973 to 1982, though the two seperated in 1979. Fawcett achieved critical praise as a serious actress for her role as a battered wife in the 1984 television movie, The Burning Bed. She also won acclaim in the stage & movie version of Extremities. In this role, she played a rape victim who turns the tables on her attacker. In 1997 she received some negative attention after giving a less-than-coherent interview on The Late Show with David Letterman. It was speculated that her rambling, incoherent manner was because of drug abuse. She claims that she was just nervous & unprepared for the appearance. Posters Of Farrah Fawcett
