Background Information: Basil Brush [Top] Basil Brush is a reddish-brown fox glove- puppet who has appeared in British childrens television programmes from the 1960s to the present day. He was originally voiced by Ivan Owen. He is noted for his catchphrase Boom! Boom!. His most prized possession is his tail, or brush. He was created in 1963 by Peter Firmin for The Three Scampys childrens show. In 1970 he was given his own television series The Basil Brush Show. His act often involved a straight man, one of whom was Derek Fowlds of later Yes Minister fame. Others included the magician David Nixon, Rodney Bewes famous for being one half of The Likely Lads & Roy North. Boom! Boom! Its Basil Brush & Boom! Boom! Its Basil Brush. In 2002, Basil made a comeback in a BBC sitcom called The Basil Brush Show. He also briefly appeared as a presenter for several Friday episodes of the popular British childrens programme Blue Peter in 2003 in which he had his own joke segment.
