Clambake is not, as I have read elsewhere, Elviss worst movie. Actually, it is really rather good. Supposedly he was having a tough time personally during the making of this but actually he must have been a good actor because you wouldnt know it.

Elvis is the son of an oil baron who decides to switch identities with a water ski instructor he meets & tries to find true love. Sounds hokey but is quite funny. There is a good supporting cast, Shelly Fabares & Bill Bixby are on form & the songs are not the worst although Confidence is cringe-worthy but then there has to be at least one turkey in every Elvis movie in the 60s.

Elvis looks a bit chunky but we can let that pass. The sets are not half bad & the script is quite good.

There are plenty of laughs in this one. And, of course, Elvis is fighting to win the heart of the fair maiden. Will he win - you just have to watch & see!! I would recommend this as one of his better late 60s efforts. Light-hearted & easy to watch.

Elvis Presley is the self-titled debut album from Elvis Presley. On November 21, 1955, RCA bought Presleys contract from Sun Records for $35,000, thanks to RCA executive Steve Sholes. Presley & rock & roll were still untested properties in the music business, but this album proved the selling power of both. It was the first rock album to hit number one & RCAs first million selling pop album. It is ranked 55 on the List of Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The cover is ranked number 40 on the List of Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Album Covers. It was parodied by The Clash on the cover of their London Calling album, which is number 39 on the list.
