Consumer DVD Review [Top] Ewan’s no wildlife expert, but makes a good ‘everyman’ guide for all that. He looks & sounds so absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to visit the Canadian Arctic & see the polar bears up close that his enthusiasm & playfulness soon become infectious. All the more telling, therefore, is his growing disquiet over the relationship between human & animal in & around the town. And his down-to-earth & distinctly blokeish approach to the townspeople helps present them as ordinary people in what seems at first an extraordinary situation. Further thought reveals that it’s not that different from similar clashes of interest the world over: how do we live with potentially lethal predators? Not something we have to worry about in Britain anymore, though every now & then someone talks about reintroducing the wolf into the Scottish Highlands. Now that would be right up Ewan McGregor’s street…
Biography: Goldie Hawn [Top] Goldie Hawn is a Washington, D,C. born actress who began her career as one of the regular cast members on the 1960s sketch comedy show Laugh-In. Noted equally for her chipper attitude & her bikini & painted body, she personified a 60s it-girl. On the show she would often break out into high-pitched giggles in the middle of a joke, yet in the next moment deliver a very polished performance. She embodied both the concept of the free-loving hippie girl & the determined feminist. Hawn won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the 1969 film Cactus Flower. Into the 1970s & 1980s Hawn remained a popular figure in entertainment, appearing in various films She gathered great respect as a comedic actress, outspoken on her liberal political views. Her career died down a bit until 1992 when she revitalized it opposite Bruce Willis & Meryl Streep in the film Death Becomes Her. She eventually came full circle playing an aging actress in the late 90s film The First Wives Club opposite Bette Midler & Diane Keaton.
