Gerald Norman Jerry Springer is a former Democratic mayor of Cincinnati, who now hosts a television program bearing his name, The Jerry Springer Show. In January 1949, he emigrated to the United States with his family on the RMS Queen Mary. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in 1965, majoring in political science. He got a law degree from Northwestern University in 1968. He then became a campaign aide to Robert Kennedy ; after Kennedys assassination, he joined a Cincinnati law firm. In 1970, Springer ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives, but failed to unseat incumbent Republican Dennis D Clancy. Springer was elected to the Cincinnati city council in 1971, at the age of 27. He resigned in 1974 after it was discovered that he had paid a prostitute with a personal check that had been found when police raided a massage parlor. A few days later he made a public announcement about & apology for this affair; the next year he was reelected to the city council.

Quite a few people think that Jerry Springers show is simply too BAD for TV, but I have to confess to having followed it for a while before getting bored of watching lower-IQ attention-seeking Americans insulting & assaulting one another. While Jerry is a model of restraint, the guests know no such self-control: they frequently throw chairs, shoes & props at each other, tear off each others wigs, get restrained by the on-set security guards & spend over 50% of their talk-time swearing. The obscenities are always bleeped, the hottest inter-guest violence is edited out, & the scenes where female guests spontaneously remove their clothing are pixellated to preserve modesty. The programme-makers shrewdly spotted an audience for the material that ends up on the cutting-room floor - & Too Hot for TV is the first collection of this stuff. I cant imagine anyone wanting to start a personal Jerry Springer video collection, but this tape is interesting for curiosity value.

Steve Wilkos, originally from Chicago, Illinois, is the director of security on The Jerry Springer Show. On many ocassions he has substituted for Jerry Springer as host of the show. Wilkos is the son of a Chicago police officer & a beauty school instructor. In junior high, Steve was 135 pounds & wore glasses. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps & was enlisted for 7 years. In 1985, while in Quantico, Virginia, Steve met & married a fellow Marine. The couple divorced two years later. In 1989, he received an honorable discharge. In 1990, Steve followed in his fathers footsteps & became a Chicago police officer. In May 1994, the producers of the Jerry Springer Show needed to have security guards for a Ku Klux Klan -related show, so they decided to hire off-duty police. Steve recruited several fellow officers for the job & has been with the show since. In 1998, Steve & his second wife, Hannah, separated. They divorced in 1999.
